The Lounge | Re: Software testing myths

There are few myths about testing which are as follows:

1. The software developers can only be the Tester.
2. Testing is not interesting.
3. Testing is not well known profession.
4. Testing can lead to addiction to computers.

Paid Projects: Getting Started & Discussions | Re: Getting projects despite dates marked as unavailable

I think this is my problem. I got invited and there was only 15 testcases for 20 people, so I just did not get in time to get one and the app was really big and complex and I was trying to find some issue but I haven't found any.

Jus to point out something:
- 20 people found only 9 approved bugs
- I think most of these people found it because of testcases (which I did not have)
- I really dig deep for a few hours through the app but didn't find anything and I couldn't provide any feedback, that I actually tested this Image may be NSFW.

So can you tell me, how much this will affect my rating? Because it seems that I haven't got any invite since then ..

Paid Projects: Getting Started & Discussions | Re: "Placeholder" bugs...

So far I reported about 5 issues without video, where I stated that I provide video in a few hours when I get to the computer (I uploaded only screenshots). Everytime approving was waiting until I upload video.

So far no problem with uploading video few hours later.

Paid Projects: Getting Started & Discussions | Re: Oops! It is a duplicate....

Having the issues in excel sheet will end up in a same problem as same as we search for that keyword we are looking for.

I would suggest that it would be better if we have option to select area/section of the application for each bug when raising the bug. So we can use that filter to check for duplicates and go though only selective bugs from that section.

Alreay TTL or PM mentioning the in-scope sections of the application, same can be given as filters in the defect section so we can use them.

Cheers,
Venu

General Testing / QA | Re: Analyze This: Testers have a stake in the product's succ

Quote:Originally you asked if testers have a stake. I believe they always have some type of stake in whatever they are testing regardless of whether they care. This topic shifted to caring later on.
Belive it or not I put a fair amount of time thinking about the topic for these posts. I try to get the wording just right and try to plan out how the conversation will go. Rarely do things go as I expected Image may be NSFW.

Sometimes we analyze the meaning of the statement, sometimes we analyze the statement itself. I think its great!

For every one of these topic, I came in with my own thoughts and I left with a much richer understanding. There are always other viewpoints we never thought of and lessons we can learn from our peers. THAT is the point and power of this series!

QA Resources | A better way to access your crash logs (Mac)!

I remember my early days (aka 3 months ago) of bug testing. I dreaded crash logs. I could never find them. I was always confused - until I discovered the best thing since sliced bread: ALIASES!

An alias is basically a copy of a folder. Anything in Folder1 will be in Folder1's alias, and vice-versa. They are exact mirrors of each other.

So I would like to share with you my method of using aliases to quickly access my crash logs.

As most of us know, your crash log folders are in /<Username>/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/MobileDevice/<DeviceName>.
Side Note: your crash log folder is your device's name. If you test on multiple devices, including the model in your device's name makes sorting these folders much easier, for example Michael's iPad, Michael's iPhone7 (hey, who knows how long this post will be here).

Navigate to your crash log folder (MobileDevice). Leave this window open.
Now, open a new finder window (COMMAND-N) and choose a destination for your aliases. This can be anywhere. You can put a folder on your desktop called Crash Logs if you like. Choose which crash folder you would like to create an alias for (ideally all of them, but you can only do one at a time). This will require four fingers. If you don't meet this requirement, please ask a friend for help.

To create your alias: hold down OPTION and COMMAND. While holding these down, tap your crash folder and drag it into it's new destination. You should see the new folder listed with the word 'alias' at the end of it and the original folder should remain unchanged.

That's it! Any time you need to access a crash log, just navigate to your new (and easier-to-find) folder alias!

Hope this helps some of you. Happy testing!!

-Michael

Paid Projects: Getting Started & Discussions | Re: iPhone 6 plus not getting much love?

Quote:After the iPhone 6 and 6 plus release I noticed some bonuses/test cycles just for iPhone 6, but none of them were really for iPhone 6 plus. Does this also applies to invitations?

I'm choosing between two devices in the next week when it will be available here in Poland (as waiting time in US is till 29 october if you order it now, lol), and I'm in doubt really.

Too early to tell since it was just released to be honest, but it's basically tied to what the popular devices are. I think that there will ultimately be demand for both, *especially* at the beginning as customers want all their bases covered, despite the regular 6 probably being the more "mainstream" of the two. As long as there's people buying these devices though (which there are), our customers will be testing on them Image may be NSFW.

Tester Recognition | Re: What is your favorite testing quote?

From my first QA job, one of the more senior testers had a saying that was "I'll <dramatic pause> I'll ship with that." which meant we didn't really want to ship with whatever it was if we could help it. Kind of a fun ice breaker that we used in the department.
